- 5.Talk to existing tenants about their experience

- 2.Confirm the deposit amount and the terms for getting it back
- 3.Note the exact start and end dates of your lease
- 4.Ask what happens if you need to leave before the lease ends
- 5.Get a written receipt for every payment you make

- 1.Never pay cash without getting a signed receipt
- 2.Use M-Pesa or bank transfer so you have a digital record
- 3.Expect to pay 1–3 months deposit plus first month upfront
- 4.Be cautious of landlords demanding excessive upfront payments
