Before Signing

  1. 1.Read the full lease agreement — every clause matters
  2. 2.Confirm the deposit amount and the terms for getting it back
  3. 3.Note the exact start and end dates of your lease
  4. 4.Ask what happens if you need to leave before the lease ends
  5. 5.Get a written receipt for every payment you make

Payment Safety

  1. 1.Never pay cash without getting a signed receipt
  2. 2.Use M-Pesa or bank transfer so you have a digital record
  3. 3.Expect to pay 1–3 months deposit plus first month upfront
  4. 4.Be cautious of landlords demanding excessive upfront payments
